Limiting Risks without Limiting Deals—What to look for in underwriting besides down payments

I began working in the family business in 2013 as a sales associate after leaving the military. In 2014 I stepped away from sales to focus on our compliance in both underwriting and collections. In 2015 I took over the position of Sales Manager and put focus on moving away from the set down payments process we had always used and developed our current underwriting guidelines that focuses on stability, vehicle selection, and PTI. I managed our sales team of 4 sales associates selling 700+ vehicles annually through the pandemic and for the last 3 years have only two sales associates selling just under 700 vehicles annually.
